Meet Seachance…

Meet Seachance, a baby blue beach cottage and one of the original Tassie shacks that's located in the small fishing town of Bicheno on the Apple Isle's East Coast.

A local family built Seachance in 1955 and subsequent owners have left their own unique mark on the property. In 2018, Hobart born-and-bred John and his Dutch wife Karin purchased Seachance and began gently breathing life back into this mid-century gem. After a careful restoration, much done by hand by naval architect John and stylist and art curator Karin, Seachance has been returned to a charming, welcoming space for weary wanderers and avid adventurers.

Catch the early morning rays and a surf report from passing locals as you sip an espresso at the picnic table out the front. Fix a sandwich and soak up the afternoon sun in the backyard, where spongy seaside turf feels good under bare feet. Stoke the woodfire and play cards with a glass of vino as you plan the next day's slow schedule.

Seachance is a hop, skip and jump from the foreshore, walking tracks, cafe strip and town centre. A short car ride will take you up and down the coast to other experiences such as vineyards, distilleries, eateries, lookouts and even mountain bike trails.

We'd love you to come and switch off from the hustle and bustle and share in our little Seachance story.

Meet the owner…

Meet Karin Haveman, an Art Director and Stylist who worked in art galleries, museums and as freelancer all over the world.

“After studying museology and art history in Amsterdam, I got my first job as collection manager at a historical museum in the west of Netherlands. And after moving to the other side of the world (twice!), I continued working for art galleries and as freelance stylist. Well… ok, so that’s me in a nutshell but that’s not the end of this story. Only the beginning. After moving to the magical island Tasmania with my love and one baby boy later, we found ourselves having fallen in love with a little beach shack on the East Coast of the island. Seachance was her name and was love at first site. Since then we have renovated it with much love and I have curated and carefully sourced art, design and vintage pieces, to give it a homely feel, a place to tune out and relax, but always keeping the original shack vibe alive. I feel truly blessed that I am able to share my love, my passion, my style with the rest of the world.”

Karin currently resides in a 70s bungalow by the seaside in Hobart, Tasmania with her soul love John, a naval architect and their two boys Otto and Max.
